Ramaphosa announces cabinet changes, appointing new Ministers

  • President Cyril Ramaphosa has made immediate changes to the National Executive, citing constitutional authority for the two appointments and one removal.
  • The most significant change sees Willem Abraham Stephanus Aucamp appointed as the new Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment, replacing Dr. Dion George.
  • Alexandra Lilian Amelia Abrahams was also appointed as the new Deputy Minister for Trade Industry and Competition, bolstering the economic cluster.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has enacted immediate changes to the National Executive, confirming two appointments and one removal from key portfolios in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.

The changes were announced via a short statement from the Presidency today, citing Section 91(3)(b) as the legal basis for the adjustments.

The most prominent change involves the Ministry of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment. President Ramaphosa confirmed the appointment of Mr. Willem Abraham Stephanus Aucamp as the new Minister for the portfolio.

Dr. Dion George has been removed from the post, a decision made under the authority of Section 91(2) of the Constitution.

Additionally, the President strengthened the economic cluster by appointing Ms Alexandra Lilian Amelia Abrahams as the new Deputy Minister for Trade Industry and Competition. This appointment was confirmed under Section 93(1)(a) of the Constitution.

Concluding his statement, the President extended his best wishes to both Mr. Aucamp and Ms. Abrahams as they take up their new responsibilities within the government.
