Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Sabelo Radebe says his lack of first-team football has not dented his confidence as he looks to earn more regular game time.
The 22-year-old academy graduate has been one of the standout players for Chiefs in the DStv Diski Challenge but has found opportunities limited under Stuart Baxter in the first team this season.
However, he’s offered the head coach something to think about as he provided a match-winning assist in the 1-0 victory over Baroka when he came on in the final eight minutes of the DStv Premiership clash.
“The chance finally came, so I had to show up. I have been waiting for the chance to play and this will help me keep my attitude positive,” he told the club’s website about his cameo.
“I have a great attitude – that’s why I made an impact. I just keep on motivating myself to keep going.”
With just two minutes of league action offered prior to setting up Khama Billiat’s goal that moved Amakhosi back into the top three and in contention for CAF football next season – he opened up on what went through his mind.
“I knew I had control of the ball I and got there before the defender,” Radebe explained. “I was close to the goals and I saw something coming. The guys made good movements, which opened up the chance for us.
“I am proud of myself and the team and thankful to the coach for this opportunity. We need to keep on winning. We need to pull up our socks and keep on aiming for more points.”
It proved to be his first goal involvement in his fourth substitute appearance since being promoted to the first-team in February last year.
