  • Five South African women were arrested at OR Tambo with narcotics worth more than R5 million.
  • The drugs were found hidden in the suspects’ clothing, including their footwear and underwear.
  • The group was intercepted while attempting to travel to China via a transit stop in Dubai.

Five South African women were arrested on Saturday, 28 March 2026, at OR Tambo International Airport after being caught with narcotics valued at over R5 million.

The suspects were intercepted by authorities while attempting to board a flight to China via Dubai.

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk, the illicit substances were cleverly concealed on the women’s bodies, with some hidden inside sneakers and others stashed in their underwear.

The arrests are the result of intensified surveillance and ongoing efforts to disrupt international drug trafficking syndicates operating through South Africa’s major transport hubs.

The five suspects remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 31 March.

They face serious charges related to the possession and trafficking of illegal drugs, as investigators work to determine the origin of the narcotics.
