R124 million jackpot winner finally comes forward

A woman’s ordinary Friday took an unimaginable turn after a phone call she ignored revealed she had won the massive R124.6 million Powerball jackpot from the 5 August 2025 draw.

The ticket, bought through a banking app for just R37.50, contained numbers she had carefully chosen herself. Initially, repeated calls from an unfamiliar number went unanswered, as she assumed it was just another telemarketing attempt.

According to ITHUBA’s statement, when she finally picked up, her bank instructed her to visit the nearest ITHUBA office. Arriving in Johannesburg on Monday, 11 August, she was stunned to learn she was the sole jackpot winner.

“I am still in shock,” she admitted, explaining how the prize would completely transform her family’s circumstances. Her husband has been unemployed for several years, forcing them to survive on a single income.

The windfall means she can now afford to restore her late parents’ home and achieve her long-held dream of owning a car. “I wish my parents were still here; there’s so much I would have wanted to do for them,” she said, adding that their family home will be rebuilt in their memory.

ITHUBA CEO Charmaine Mabuza confirmed the prize had been claimed and expressed her joy over its potential impact. “We are thrilled that the winner has come forward and deeply moved by how this life-changing jackpot will positively impact her and her family,” she said.
