Queen Ntokozo kaMayisela, the wife of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini, has been missing from royal engagements for almost a year and snubbed the King’s 50th birthday party to attend a friend’s umemulo (coming of age) ceremony.

The Queen’s absence from royal events has been noted on many occasions.

Her absence has raised questions after people noticed she no longer accompanies the King to some of the Zulu nation’s most important ceremonies and government events.

Scrolla.Africa learned that on 28 September, when King Misuzulu celebrated his birthday with traditional leaders and royal family members, Queen KaMayisela was absent.

“Instead, the Queen was in uPhongola at her best friend’s umemulo ceremony,” a royal family source said. “She is very close to Velephi Masuku. So the Queen attended her umemulo event while the King celebrated his 50th birthday at KwaKhangela Amankengane Royal Palace.”

Another source said the Queen’s pictures of the event were seen on the social media posts of her close friends.

“In a caption, she was described as the most beautiful and praying Queen who has withstood the most testing of times. She looks happy and glowing in those pictures,” the source said.

Queen KaMayisela has reportedly moved out of the KwaNkomonye Royal Palace in Ulundi to stay in a rental apartment in Durban.

Last month, the King’s spokesperson, Prince Simphiwe Zulu, refused to comment on the Queen’s absence from royal events, saying Scrolla.Africa should get the answer from her.

Attempts to contact her were unsuccessful, as her phone was on voice mail.
