South African-born singer Tyla Laura Seethal has won her second Grammy award at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, held on Sunday 1 February in Los Angeles.

TYLA WINS ANOTHER GRAMMY!

Johannesburg-born singing sensation Tyla has bagged her second Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance for her hit Push 2 Start, which comes from the deluxe edition of her self-titled debut album. The Grammy awards was held on Sunday 1 February at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Tyla has made history as the first artist to bring home the award twice. In 2024, she won a Grammy in the same category for her breakthrough hit Water. Back then she made history as the youngest-ever African artist to do so.

Tyla had strong competition for the award as she was up against:

  • ‘Love’ — Burna Boy
  • ‘With You’ — Davido Featuring Omah Lay
  • ‘Hope & Love’ — Eddy Kenzo & Mehran Matin
  • ‘Gimme Dat’ — Ayra Starr Featuring Wizkid

THE SINGER’S BACKSTAGE INTERVIEW

Tyla did not get to give her acceptance speech on stage. However, she got a chance to during a backstage interview.

“Guys, first of all, Africa. Like, guys, this is insane. This is so insane. I’m just so lucky to be here, and I’m so proud to be African. I’m so proud to be where I’m from, and I hope that everyone is too,” she said.

“I’m excited to see more of us over here. I already thanked a lot of people. I thank God. I thank my family, my team, my Tygers,” she continued.

She also went on to announce that her sophomore album titled A-Pop will be dropping in the US Summer.

Tyla’s second Grammy win came just days after she turned 24 on 31 January. She shared a video of her celebrations on Instagram.
