PSL referee lends a helping hand

A prominent PSL referee has launched a charity foundation to lend a helping hand to needy children, specifically school learners.

Referee Jelly Chavani was joined by the community of Chavani under the Vhembe District in Limpopo this week and officially unveiled the Jelly Chavani Foundation.

The Foundation is aimed at empowering young kids to, amongst other things, realise their dreams.

Speaking during the unveiling, also attended by officials from Makhado Municipality and traditional leaders, he said: “This foundation is mainly focused on helping future leaders. We are quite aware that there are a number of kids who normally drop out of school due to lack of basic needs.”

“So, we came up with an idea to establish this foundation so we can really assist those who are in need. As we have seen today that we managed to give away things that are most needed at school to 10 learners, so that’s our main aim. Our vision is to make sure that everybody who is at school is assisted because we know that education is the most powerful key in Life.

“We have just launched, and we can not say who we are targeting (for financial assistance), but one thing I can assure you is that we will go back and sit down. We know there are people out there who are willing to help these learners,” he said.

“It’s only that nobody has engaged with them, so now we are going back to sit down and talk to them. Even if we can get one of two, our main objective is to touch one life at a time and believe me, even tonight, we touched some of the learners we donated to.”

The 26-year-old centre-man has been officiating in the top-flight for the last six years.
