27 Premier Soccer League Player Transition Programme graduates were honoured yesterday at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) in Johannesburg.
MultiChoice’s commitment to local football through their partnership with the PSL kept their motto of enriching lives, as through this partnership empowering players in a manner that will see them continue being successful well after their playing careers come to an end.
The programme aims to equip and empower PSL players aged between 28 and 35 years with the necessary knowledge and skills to transition into a role in the sport after they have retired.
There were 64 players from the DStv Premiership sides with each club selecting four players that wanted to attend the programme which started in the season of 2021/22. Of the 64 players that enrolled on the programme, only 27 graduated.
The Programme is a legacy project for MultiChoice and is scheduled to run for three years…this being the conclusion of the first year with two years left for it.
Orlando Pirates captain Innocent Maela was part of the players that graduated during the day, the 2023 MTN8 winner sent words of thank you to Multichoice and PSL for this opportunity.
“I feel good, I feel empowered and very enriching and we thank GIBS and Multichoice for making this possible for us,” Maela told iDiski Times.
“First and foremost it has given me the opportunity to think broader to understand that there’s more than playing football. But also it has opened doors for me to go ahead and further my studies and try to achieve bigger and more things academically.”
The Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) is the education partner/implementer of the programme.
