Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Mabhuti Khenyeza is on the verge of being appointed as the new head coach of struggling Motsepe Foundation Championship side, Black Leopards.

According to iDiski Times’ leading reporter Sinethemba Makonco, Khenyeza’s move to Thohoyandou is all but complete.

The club known as “Lidoda Duvha” (the day will come) are stuck in 14th position in the Premier Soccer League’s second-tier division after parting ways with Joel Masutha.

FORMER KAIZER CHIEFS STRIKER MABHUTI KHENYEZA LEAVES KOMANI UNITED

After just two wins, three draws, and five defeats in 10 games, Leopards have decided to bring in the former Kaizer Chiefs attacker.

According to the report, Khenyena has bid farewell to Komani United in the Eastern Cape after four matches, which included two wins, a draw, and a defeat.

“Players were informed about Masutha’s exit on Sunday following their 1-0 loss against Cape Town City at Thohoyandou Stadium which was their fifth loss in 10 matches leaving Lidoda Duvha in 14th place level on points with 15th-placed Midlands Wanderers FC,” Makonco reported.

“Khenyeza is expected to start his coaching duties at Leopards this afternoon when they start training at 15h00. He will have a few days to work with the team before facing their rivals Venda Football Club on Friday, 21 November,” the report added.

COACHING PEDIGREE

Khenyeza is no newcomer to the country’s second tier. The Howick-born former striker first coached in the division with TS Galaxy during the 2019/20 season, just before the club bought Highlands Park’s Betway Premiership status in September 2020.

The former Kaizer Chiefs striker has since gained experience in the top flight, serving as an assistant and co-coach at Golden Arrows, Maritzburg United, AmaZulu, and Chippa United. His only spell as a head coach came at Arrows in 2022.
