PSL club owner denies sale rumours

A Motsepe Foundation Championship club owner has refuted rumours that they are selling their PSL status.

The sale of clubs is rife in domestic football as owners sell for various reasons.

The trend has been heavily criticised, specifically by the South African Football Players Union , as it causes instability for players.

The latest rumour is that PSL executive committee member David Thidiela has put Black Leopards on sale.

Leopards are fighting for their lives and have six matches to save their Motsepe Foundation Championship status.

It would also be a strange transaction for any sane person to pursue a status of a club fighting relegation. 

PSL CLUB SALE RUMOURS REFUTED 

But Thidiela believes there is more to the rumours and some people are hell-bent on destabilising his club. 

“There are people who would like to see the team going down,” he told FARPost. 

“You know Black Leopards have a huge support base and there are people who are jealous who want to destabilize the team.

“The players in particular don’t want them to focus on playing football and take the team out of the relegation zone. There is no such thing at Black Leopards,” explained Thidiela. 

“Black Leopards is not for sale. Not even in the near future. I know people are talking now because of the current position we find ourselves in.

BLACK LEOPARDS WILL FIGHT UNTIL THE END 

“I can assure all our supporters or soccer-loving people in the Vhembe region. They must be assured that we are going to fight until the end. We are not going to sell, and the team is not for sale, not at all.” 

Leopards’ last matches of the season are against Baroka, Hungry Lions, TTM, City Rovers, VFA and All Stars.
