PSL have announced the winners of the DStv Premiership awards for the month of April 2023.
For their stellar performances, the winning coach and player will each walk away with a trophy R7, 000 courtesy of DStv.
Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro was awarded with the Coach of the Month for April alongside Stellenbosch FC talisman Iqraam Rayners, who picked up the player’s version of the gong.
Riveiro, who started his first season in SA’s topflight like a house on fire, is closing it on a high note. He has led Pirates to four wins in April, with his troops scoring eight goals.
In contention for the CAF Champions League spot , the Soweto giants beat Richards Bay, Chippa United, Cape Town City and TS Galaxy.
And with the MTN8 title already in the bag, Pirates are in the Nedbank Cup final. They edged rivals Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in the semis on Saturday, 6 May 2023 at FNB Stadium.
ORLANDO PIRATES IN GREAT FORM UNDER JOSE RIVEIRO
“The Spaniard now wins the monthly individual accolade in South Africa for the second time. He got it in his first month in charge of the Buccaneers back in August,” said PSL in a statement.
“He received 100% of the votes from the judging panel made up of football media, commentators and analysts.”
Meanwhile, Rayners was rewarded for having taken the league by form since his return to Stellenbosch FC. He wins the accolade for the second second month in succession.
The lethal hitman scored four goals in April: a brace in Stellies’ wins against Swallows and Golden Arrows.
Overall, Rayners has netted 15 goals and provided two assists in 11 games in all competitions for Stellenbosch FC.
The 27-year-old is in the race to win another award, the Golden Boot. Rayners is two less than the league’s leading scorer Mamelodi Sundowns’ Peter Shalulile.
