The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) is currently monitoring a protest in the Midrand suburbs of Ivory Park and Ebony Park, where residents have taken to the streets to demonstrate against prolonged water outages.
The residents of Ivory Park say they have not had water in weeks, which has disrupted their livelihoods, including children’s schooling.
They have accused the councillor of being cahoots with criminals who tamper with the water switch at the reservoir.
Protesters have barricaded Republic Road with burning tyres, rocks, and debris, causing significant traffic disruption.

The JMPD has confirmed that while the road is closed, the situation on the ground remains calm.
Motorists are advised to be cautious when travelling in the area and to use alternative routes to avoid the protest. Police have urged drivers to steer clear of Republic Road until the situation is resolved.
