South Africa’s big win over Ireland in the second one-day international was the perfect way to bounce back from the drawn test series.
Following their 139-run win in the first game, the Proteas were 174-run victors this time around as they bowled the Irish out for 169 after putting 343 runs on the board to win the series.
Tristan Stubbs was the star in the first innings with 112 off 81 balls before Lizaad Williams impressed with the ball yet again with 3/36 in his five overs.
Captain Temba Bavuma scored 35 but was forced to retire hurt and could play no further part. His injury was the only downside of an otherwise perfect day of cricket for the men in green.
“I think I aggravated an old injury on my elbow. We will get to know in the next few days. Right now, I am at the mercy of the doctors,” Bavuma said post-match.
He added that he was impressed to see improvements in the game and that the series has given the team an opportunity to widen player depth.
“It’s big improvement from our first game. Those are the performances we need to see. On the batting and bowling front, the guys have put up their hand, they are there to do the job.”
“We were trying to widen the player depth. The performance and opportunity have given us the chance to do that.”
The third final game will take place from 13:30 on Monday.
