Prominent EFF Member Gunned Down In KZN

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) have condemned the brutal killing of a senior member of their organization in the uMkhanyakude District.

Mxolisi Buthelezi, EFF uMkhanyakude Regional Chairperson, was allegedly gunned down on his way to work on Thursday, 2 June. Buthelezi was on his way to a caucus meeting with another EFF member in KZN, according to the EFF. An unknown vehicle allegedly overtook them and fired gunshots at them.

“Buthelezi died on the scene while the other fighter was rushed to a local clinic as he sustained gunshot wounds to his leg,” the party said.

Buthelezi has been described as a friendly, hardworking, and disciplined EFF member who was devoted to the party. “We call upon the SAPS to leave no stone unturned in investigating the matter. We pray Buthelezi’s family, friends and colleagues find strength during this difficult time,” EFF KZN.

Four EFF members from the Mpumalanga branch were killed in a car accident in the province last month. In the accident, a local councillor, two siblings, and another comrade were killed.

The four people killed in the accident were reportedly all working on a by-election scheduled for Tuesday, June 1st. A fifth member of the delegation is still in critical condition in a Mpumalanga hospital.
