Prince Kaybee’s ‘Charlotte’ turns 9 today

Prince Kaybee took fans on a nostalgic trip this week after marking the ninth anniversary of his hit song Charlotte.

The producer revealed on social media that it was on 29 January, nine years ago, that he recorded the track, which went on to become one of the most beloved songs in his catalogue.

Taking to X, Kaybee wrote, “9 years on this day 29 Jan I recorded Charlotte. HAPPY CHARLOTTE DAY,” instantly sparking warm reactions from fans who still hold the song close to their hearts.

The track, which features Lady Zamar, is widely regarded as a defining moment in South African dance music, praised for its emotional depth, haunting vocals and unforgettable production.

Fans flooded the comments section with appreciation, many calling Charlotte one of Prince Kaybee’s finest works.

“One of your best songs, even the music video did justice to it,” one fan wrote, while another added, “One of the best songs you released man, when are you hitting us with new music?”

Others went even further, with one user declaring, “You gave us a masterpiece of a lifetime!”

Released at a time when Prince Kaybee was still carving his place in the industry, Charlotte helped elevate his profile and showcased his ability to blend storytelling with dance music.

Lady Zamar’s soulful contribution added to the song’s emotional weight, making it a standout that continues to resonate years later.
