  • Civil rights groups have called on incoming NDPP Advocate Andy Mothibi to act swiftly against those implicated in the Tembisa Hospital looting scandal.
  • The Activists and Citizens’ Forum has welcomed his appointment, citing his track record at the SIU and urging action without fear or favour.
  • The group says the public expects arrests, accountability, and decisive prosecution of all individuals named in corruption investigations.

Pressure is already mounting on newly appointed National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Advocate Andy Mothibi, with several civil rights groups calling for urgent action against those implicated in the Tembisa Hospital looting scandal.

Mothibi, who currently heads the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), is set to succeed Advocate Shamila Batohi at the end of her term.

The Activists and Citizens’ Forum has welcomed his appointment, expressing confidence that corrupt individuals will soon be held accountable.

Forum leader Jack Bloom said Mothibi has proven his capabilities during his tenure at the SIU and brings the experience, integrity, and respect urgently needed at the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

“The Activists and Citizens’ Forum has consistently maintained that the appointment of the NDPP must be an apolitical decision, with no political interference in this critical role,” Bloom said.

He added that there are high expectations that Mothibi will execute his duties without fear or favour, describing the appointment as a potential turning point for the prosecution authority.

“We believe dignity, integrity, and trust will be restored in this crucial institution,” Bloom said.

Bloom further noted that the country expects swift action on the Zondo Commission report, calling for all those implicated to face the full might of the law.

“We also expect to soon see the arrest of those involved in the looting at Tembisa Hospital, including all syndicates linked to this massive corruption,” he added.
