The Kosovo national team sent three players, including a Premier League goalkeeper, home from international duty after they were caught partying at a nightclub until 2am on Saturday.
The breach of team rules came after Friday night’s 3-0 defeat to Romania, leading the Kosovo football federation to take quick disciplinary action.
“By a joint decision of coach Franco Foda and the association, three football players were excluded because they violated the rules of the national team established by the coach and the association,” the federation said in a statement.
Alongside Edon Zhegrova and Florent Muslija, Ipswich Town’s starting goalkeeper Arijanet Muric was at the forefront of the scandal — and the shot-stopper was not happy with the decision.
“The decision for us was not fair at all and the rumours that are circulating are not true at all,” Muric said per the Daily Mail, after claiming that the players’ presence at the club was for a meal and not to party.
The former Burnley goalkeeper has been involved in a similar scandal before, with a £32,000 (± R650,000) nightclub bar bill and £8,000 (± R160,000) waitress tip given by the player in Munich last year.
Muric has enjoyed a good start to his Ipswich Town career, though. After starting the last two league games, he made a notable save from close-range against Erling Haaland and Manchester City, which saw him being nominated for the Save of the Month award.
