Potential investors for Tiger Brands canning factory

The Tiger Brands canning factory facing closure in the Western Cape has caught the eye of potential investors. But more than 250 full-time jobs are still on the line with no deal signed as yet.

AgriSA, the Canned Fruit Producers Association and 160 farmers are set on buying out Africa’s largest fruit canning factory to save jobs. Funding is a barrier.

The consortium has a 60-day deadline before South Africa’s largest food manufacturer, Tiger Brands, pulls the plug on the Ashton-based factory.

The farmers are confident they can meet the deadline to save a further 4,500 seasonal jobs.
