The gospel music fraternity and Christian community across South Africa are mourning the loss of beloved worship leader and singer Mamello Molamu, who passed away on Friday evening, 12 June 2026.

The news was confirmed in an official statement released by the Molamu family, who described her death as a devastating loss to those who knew and loved her.

Mamello was widely recognised for her powerful worship ministry, inspiring music and unwavering commitment to spreading the message of faith through song. Over the years, she built a reputation as a gifted minister whose music resonated deeply with audiences and congregations across the country.

Through her ministry, Mamello touched countless lives, creating spaces of worship and spiritual reflection wherever she performed. Many followers remember her not only for her musical talent but also for her passion for serving God and encouraging others in their faith journeys.

Her influence in the gospel music industry continued to grow throughout her career as she released several music projects that showcased both her vocal ability and dedication to worship. Among her notable releases was The Praise Encounter EP, a project that earned praise from supporters and fellow gospel artists alike.

In a statement shared with the public, the family highlighted the many roles Mamello fulfilled beyond her public ministry.

“Beyond her public ministry, Mamello was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished daughter, trusted friend, and a valued member of her community,” the statement read.

The family expressed profound sadness following her passing and appealed for privacy as they come to terms with their loss and begin making funeral arrangements.

They also thanked supporters for the outpouring of love, prayers and messages of comfort received since the announcement of her death. The family said the support has provided strength during what remains an extremely difficult period.

Friends, supporters and members of the public have been urged to respect the family’s request for space and time to grieve.

While details regarding memorial and funeral services have not yet been announced, the family said information will be shared with the public at an appropriate time.

As news of Mamello’s passing continues to spread, tributes have begun pouring in from fellow musicians, church leaders and supporters who have reflected on the impact she made through her ministry.

Many have described her as a humble servant of God whose life was dedicated to worship and uplifting others through music.

Although her death has left a void in the gospel community, those closest to her say her legacy will live on through the songs she recorded, the lives she touched and the faith she shared.

Her worship leadership, music and unwavering devotion to God will continue to inspire generations of believers for years to come.
