Police Seize Counterfeit Goods Worth Millions In Cape Town
The Western Cape police in Cape Town have made a significant breakthrough in their fight against counterfeit goods. On Saturday, the police confiscated more than R75 million worth of fake clothing from a warehouse and several shops in the city.
This operation was carried out as part of the province’s ‘Safer Festive Season’ campaign, which aims to curb criminal activity during the upcoming holidays.
According to National South African Police Service (Saps) Commissioner Fanie Masemola, one of the key focuses of the festive season operation is firearms and second-hand goods dealers. The police have observed a worrying increase in criminal activity in the province and are determined to respond effectively to ensure the safety of the community.
The seizure of the counterfeit goods is a significant blow to the criminals involved in the illegal trade. The spokesperson for the Western Cape police, FC Van Wyk, stated that a double murder case and an attempted murder case had been opened following an incident in Bishop Lavis. Two people were tragically shot and killed, while two others were critically injured and are receiving medical treatment.
The motive for the shooting is yet to be determined, but the police have not ruled out the possibility of it being gang-related. The Western Cape has been plagued by gang violence for years, and law enforcement agencies are continuously working to dismantle these criminal networks.
