Cleveland police are searching for Carlos Rebelo, who is suspected of kidnapping Laura Nkhana’s six-year-old daughter, Eva Tembo.
Eva lived with Laura at Rebelo’s house. Laura has worked for Carlos since 2014.
Laura claims that Carlos has previously tried to keep Eva away from her.
“He locked her in his room and took her to aftercare even when she cried,” Laura said.
When Laura informed Carlos that she was quitting and returning to Malawi, Carlos threatened that she would never see Eva again.
Laura went to court in July, and the court ordered Carlos to return Eva. However, he left with Eva before the deadline.
“He won’t let her talk to me on the phone. I can’t sleep,” Laura said tearfully. “I just want my daughter back.”
Carlos drives an old gold-coloured Mercedes-Benz, registration number HBN940GP.
Police are looking for Carlos on charges of kidnapping, stating that he violated the court order.
