Police rescue kidnapped Indian businessman from shack in Alexandra

- Mozambican kingpin “Dollarman,” wanted for multiple kidnapping-for-ransom cases, was shot dead near the R21 in Kempton Park.
- Since July 2021, the SAPS Anti-Kidnapping Task Team has arrested over 337 suspects and seized more than 146 illegal firearms.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Kidnapping Task Team rescued an Indian businessman in Alexandra on Thursday, 4 September 2025 following a fatal shootout with the alleged mastermind behind the kidnapping.
According to a statement released by the SAPS, the suspect, a Mozambican national known as “Dollarman” was shot and killed during a confrontation with police officers near the R21 in Kempton Park on Wednesday evening.
“The suspect who goes by the nickname “Dollarman” is a wanted kidnapping kingpin in both SA and in Mozambique. He is on SERNIC which is Mozambique’s wanted persons database where he was a wanted for several kidnapping for ransoms cases,” the statement reads.

“Dollarman” was reportedly also linked to at least five kidnapping for ransom cases as well as other crimes, including housebreaking, hijacking, and possession of unlicensed firearms.
Since July 2021, the SAPS Anti-Kidnapping Task Team has arrested more than 337 suspects and seized over 146 illegal firearms.
