  • Police are investigating the kidnapping and assault of IDAC’s Head of Investigations, Matthews Sesoko.
  • He was abducted, robbed, and abandoned near Rabie Ridge after being attacked by unknown suspects.
  • IDAC says the motive is unclear, but the incident underscores the dangers faced by anti-corruption officers.

Police have launched a manhunt for suspects who kidnapped, robbed, and assaulted the Head of Investigations and Operations at the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), Matthews Sesoko.

Sesoko was abducted while driving home on Friday evening, in an incident that has raised serious concerns about the safety of officials investigating corruption.

According to IDAC spokesperson Henry Mamothame, the senior officer was kidnapped by unknown suspects who robbed him of his state laptop and cellphone before abandoning him near Rabie Ridge after assaulting him.

“His assailants assaulted him and left him near Rabie Ridge in the early hours of the morning. They took his cellphone and laptop. He managed to get assistance and was taken to a nearby police station to report the incident. He is currently receiving medical attention following the traumatic ordeal,” said Mamothame.

Mamothame added that while the organisation is cautious about speculating on the motive or possible links to his work, the incident highlights the potential risks faced by those in the corruption investigation space.

The case is now under police investigation.
