Four cases of sexual assault against a Bolt e-hailing driver are being investigated by Gauteng police.

Honeydew police officers arrested the driver last week after receiving rape allegations. He was handcuffed after a woman shared her friend’s horrific ordeal, allegedly at the hands of the suspect, on social media.

The driver is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday. According to Thembeki Segala of the police, four cases of sexual assault have been filed against the driver, with two of the cases linking the same man to a rape case from January.

“When we tried to check into what might have happened, we found that in January we already had cases and now we have four cases,” the police said.

The police have urged members of the public to come forward with any information that can help them. Bolt South Africa has since suspended the driver and stated that it is assisting law enforcement officials with the investigation.

Meanwhile, a social media petition has been circulated demanding that the e-hailing service improve its driver vetting.
