Police in the Western Cape have arrested two foreign nationals who were caught with dagga valued at R66,000.
The arrests happened during a police operation led by the Napier SAPS in the Overberg area.
Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, a police spokesperson, said the SAPS were manning a roadblock on the R316 on 14 August when a red Toyota Yaris sped through without stopping.
The police chased the car and forced it to stop. Inside, they found 44 bags filled with dagga, leading to the arrest of the two men for dealing in drugs.
The suspects will appear in Bredasdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.
Resident Bongiwe Matiwane, 50, praised the police for catching the drug dealers.
“The police are doing a good job, but the community needs to help them. Those arrested were probably delivering the drugs to someone in our community,” Matiwane said.
“Drugs are ruining our children’s futures. We know who the dealers are, but stay quiet and blame the police. If we work with the police, many more drug dealers could be arrested,” she said.
