Pitso Mosimane and his Al Ahly side returned to domestic football but could only pick up one point against National Bank of Egypt.
Al Ahly are once again playing catch-up in the league after their exploits in the CAF Champions League, where they reached their third successive final.
However, they didn’t manage to score against National Bank of Africa, who held Al Ahly to a goalless draw in a game, where even Percy Tau couldn’t continue his fine form after being involved in all six of Al Ahly’s CAFCL semi-final goals against ES Setif.
It was Al Ahly’s fourth successive league game without a victory and saw they remain in third place behind Zamalek and Pyramids.
The Club of the Century now sit on 34 points after 15 games, while defending league champions Zamalek have 41 points after 19 matches after losing their last two games, with Pyramids on 39 points from 18 games.
If Al Ahly would win their games in hand, they could potentially 46 points.
