Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane says their game against is Al Merrikh is key after the loss to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Al Ahly host Al Merrikh this evening, with the game scheduled for a 9pm kick off SAST.
Ahly have just one point from their first two games of the CAF Champions League group stages, and after a home defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in their last game, Mosimane says tonight’s match is key for the defending champions.
“It is an important game for us after a defeat from Mamelodi Sundowns,” Mosimane told the club’s website.
“We are playing at home and we need to win. We are ready for the match. We play here and we have no excuse. We will do what we should do to collect the three points.”
“We have to win. The match is not easy. Al Merrikh is a strong team that stopped Mamelodi Sundowns from winning.”
“The difference between the game we played in Alexandria (against Pharco) and the game against Sundowns is that we played in Sundowns’ half and we should have scored against Sundowns, but if you do not score, it is a different story.”
“When you score the goals, it is a different story. When you miss chances, it is a problem.”
“We have injuries like Ayman, Yasser, and Badr but when we played against Al Hilal in the FIFA Club World Cup they were not in the team. When we played against Pharco they were not there.
“We do not want excuses. We have to win the match. It is not the first time that we have problem like this. It has been difficult ever since I came here, but we have faced more difficult problems.”
