Pitso Mosimane has warned his Al Ahly stars of historical collapses after massive first-leg leads ahead of their CAF Champions League semi-final return leg at ES Setif.
The reigning champions secured a more than comfortable first-leg lead, beating the Algerian side 4-0 in Cairo last week thanks to a brace and two assists by Percy Tau.
Setif themselves actually did overturn a 3-0 first-leg away defeat in the preliminary round of this year’s CAF Champions League against Fortune from Gambia, but beat them 3-0 at home and advanced after winning the penalty shootout.
As a consequence, Mosimane has warned his side to not think they’re already in the final because football has seen some very big overturns of first-leg leads.
“It’s not over. We still have a game to play tomorrow against a tough team like ES Setif,” he said ahead of the game.
“They will have the home advantage and history shows that some teams were able to qualify despite suffering from a heavy defeat in the first leg.
“Therefore, we are fully concentrated on Saturday’s game. We came here to score and win in order to ensure a spot in the final.”
“We know winning the second leg won’t be easy due to the fact that we will be playing away from home;however, that’s our aim.”
Al Ahly could reach their third successive CAF Champions League final after lifting the trophy in 2019/20 and 2020/21 with Mosimane at the helm.
