Pitso Mosimane has opened up on the differences between Percy Tau and Luis Miquissone after the former Mamelodi Sundowns winger scored his first goals for Al Ahly.
Miquissone had an ill-fated spell at Sundowns, ironically under Mosimane between 2018 and 2020 and found no joy out on loan either with spells at Royal Eagles and Chippa United.
However, after returning to Mozambique to play at UD Songo, he impressed before making the move to Simba SC where he won the league and starred in the CAF Champions League – where he attracted the attention of Ahly.
But after his high-profile switch in the off-season, joining alongside Bafana Bafana star Tau, he endured a slow start to life at the club and found himself on the periphery of the first-team squad.
It took him six league games to finally open his account, which he did in emphatic fashion and now Mosimane has called for patience from supporters over the Mozambique international star.
“It’s not all the time we control a game from the beginning to the end, I understand the four goals but the mood of the game was from the beginning to the end, a good performance,” he told the media.
“I hope we start like this in the next match and we scored four which was good but yes you have to understand it’s not easy for players to come to Al Ahly and play, it’s not easy.
“You can see Luis is a little bit reserved and things have not been going easy for him, I’m very happy he scored the two goals, we have to support him, he’s a good player that needs confidence and that’s how you get it.
“I’m so happy for him to score and I didn’t want to keep him long, I want to keep him a little bit hungry, I don’t want to give him all the food, that’s why I took him out.”
“No not really, there are players with different charisma, Percy Tau has charisma, Luis is a little bit reserved, he needs support, he needs goals,” he said in reference to the language barrier concerns.
“Also Hossam [Hassan], we’re waiting for the goal, the keeper made many good saves. “So people like Hossam… we have many games, we still have 26 to play in the league so it will open up [for them] with time.”
The diminutive winger will be hoping his display against Misr Lel Mekasa earns him a place in the team when they face Masadwana in the CAF Champions League on Saturday evening at the Cairo International Stadium.
