Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has reacted to the praise he recently received from African legend Mohamed Aboutrika.
Mosimane left Ahly last year June and has since joined namesakes Al Ahli Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. However, he not stopped writing history after helping the “sleeping giant” return to the Saudi Pro League.
Despite Mosimane leaving Egypt and the Club of the Century more than 10 months ago, his name is still discussed many times by some of the club’s legend and former players, who have turned into pundits in Egypt.
One of the continued critical voices has been Wael Gooma, but his former teammate and five-time CAF Champions League winner, Aboutrika had defended Mosimane’s time in Egypt.
“I respect Gomaa’s opinion, but Mosimane’s numbers and results with Al Ahly were great,” Aboutrika said on beIN Sports, as per KingFut.
“He is one of the best coaches in the history of Egyptian football and Al Ahly, coming after Nándor Hidegkuti and Manuel Jose.
“Pitso Mosimane is one of the greatest coaches in the history of Al Ahly due to winning titles during the period in which he was present, and the numbers prove that.
“In the big matches, we used to be confident as Al Ahly fans, because we know what he is capable of doing.”
Those words didn’t go unnoticed, and Mosimane took to social media to express his gratitude towards the Al Ahly and Egypt legend.
“Legendary Aboutrika, I thank you. God Bless you. Kind words,” he wrote.
In another comment under a tweet with Aboutrika’s knighting praise, Mosimane said he was humbled by the words from Aboutrika.
“I am humbled by Legend Aboutrika’s inspiring words. I will keep working hard.”

Mosimane and his Saudi Arabian side have won 13 out of their last 16 league games and are currently in first position of the Yelo League, three points ahead of Al Akhdoud with four games to spare.
