Pitso On Potential Bafana Return Or Move To Europe

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahli coach Pitso Mosimane has responded to questions about a potential Bafana Bafana return in future, and discussed why it’s so difficult for him to break into Europe.

Mosimane guided Al Ahli Jeddah back into the Saudi Pro League, but speculation is ride that he could leave the Saudi Pro bound outfit.

Before the talk about Mosimane’s potential departure started spiraling, he was asked whether he could imagine coaching in Europe in [the] future, but he insisted the doors don’t seem be to open to African coaches.

“You know the story of Europe is perception, is mentality, is culture… Europe has been Europe, we all know about it,” he told Thabiso Mosia on Radio 2000.

“I was so sad that Patrick Vieira stepped off his job at Crystal Palace. I mean that’s the guy I was hoping to say ‘Oh, can a black person make something and we can be looked at differently and all that’.

“The guy who won the Premier League with Arsenal and played for France. But now, eish, I don’t know what our future [as black coaches] in Europe will be.

“Europe is Europe… It’s not how good you are. I mean I’ve got all these European Pro License coaches in Saudi, I’m beating them every day. And they coached at the highest level there.

“But I don’t have to talk about Saudi. I mean back at home, why can’t we get a chance?

“The world the way it is. Inshallah in [the] future, the younger ones [will get a chance]. Maybe our children, or grandchildren.”

Mosimane also boldly stated that he would like to be given a chance in the English Premier League, after beating many European Pro License coaches during his time in Saudi Arabia.

“Give me a team in the Premier League, do you think I’ll do badly,” he continued.

“The doctor here is the doctor in the UK, the lawyer here is the lawyer in the UK.”

Mosimane was also asked whether he could imagine a return to Bafana, and he didn’t want to close the shut the door.

“In football anything is possible,” he replied briefly when asked about Bafana.
