Pitso Mosimane has made a telling admission after picking up his first win as head coach of Saudi Arabia outfit Al Ahli Saudi on Tuesday night.
Mosimane joined the Saudi second-tier side earlier this month and only took charge of his second game.
Ahli came back from behind to win the tie against Najran 2-1. Mosimane faces the insurmountable task of getting his team back into the topflight after they were demoted last season.
TOUGH GAME
The former Al Ahly of Egypt head coach, who signed a two-year deal with the Jeddah-based side, made a telling admission after the win.
“We thank you for your support tonight, and you carried us. Tough game it was. One step at a time. We still have a lot of work to do.💚💚💚🤲🏽🤲🏽,” Mosimane tweeted.
According to the tweet, the tough game would have shown the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach that he still has a lot of work to do with his new charges.
The win came after his side drew in his coaching debut over the weekend
Interestingly, Al Ahli were obvious favourites going into the tie against a Najran side that had only managed to collect three points out of a possible 18. They are perched at the basement of the 18-team table.
TWO PENALTIES
However, they were first to score at the stroke of halftime, leaving Mosimane’s charges the second half to chase for an equaliser.
They drew level 10 minutes into the second half, albeit from the penalty spot. Abdullah Al Mogren converted the penalty to throw Ahli a lifeline.
They got the winning goal, again from a penalty, in the 90th minute, sending the multitude of their fans into a frenzy.
Ahli moved to fourth place with 12 points, three adrift log leaders Al Khaoud after seven games.
