Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has made a shock admission and also revealed what AFCON winner Aliou Cisse asked him during the recent CAF Pro License course.

Cisse was named African Coach of the Year 2022 after leading Senegal to their first Africa Cup of Nations title earlier in the year.

After the recent CAF Champions League final, both Cisse and Mosimane completed their CAF Pro License in Morocco and the South African explained that the Indomitable Lions coach was surprised why ‘Jingles’ is not in charge of Bafana Bafana.

“I’ve just done my pro licence done by the Morocco Federation via an invite, can you believe that? It’s the first one that was done in Africa and hopefully my country can follow,” he told Thabo Mdluli on Radio 702’s TheCMShow.

“The coaches there, they ask me, even Aliou Cisse, he asked me ‘why you don’t coach South Africa?’ They look at my country as it is, for them they look up to South Africa, we’re top in the continent and all that.

“I said ‘I was there and they sacked me, they said they know more than me. The guys were saying ‘are you serious? If you are leading the continent as one of the top coaches here in the continent and South Africa are not doing well, who is coaching them?’

“I then said it’s a different situation. To be honest with you, I feel appreciated more outside than in my country to be honest.”

When asked how that makes him feel, Mosimane tried to explain the reasons for how he feels he is perceived.

“We come from a different culture, our history also plays a part in that, because our country is not together,” he added.

“In Egypt they are all Egyptians. There is no minority of white people, no its Egyptians.

“In Senegal, it’s Senegalese. I was invited now in Tanzania…

“Our country we come from those backgrounds. When it’s rugby you see how full the stadium is, when it comes to football why not?

“And we cannot also try to play politics. Why can’t the black people fill the stadium, if the white people can fill the stadium? Let’s be honest.

“But also we have a rivalry that’s so big in our country between Pirates, Chiefs and Sundowns, so if you are associated with a certain team, other people might not like you.

“When you move from the other team, other people also might not like you. I don’t think everybody at Sundowns likes me now.”
