Pitso Interested In Downs Duo – Report
Pitso Mosimane has asked the management of his new club, Al Wahda to sign Mamelodi Sundowns duo Gaston Sirino and Peter Shalulile, according to reports.
Mosimane joined the United Arab Emirates side just a few weeks after leaving Al Ahli Saudi FC.
He had led the Jeddah giants back into the Saudi Pro League, but the club, who are yet to announce a new coach, are seemingly interested in a bigger profile, with Jose Mourinho and Massimiliano Allegri linked.
After departing Saudi Arabia, Mosimane joined Al Wahda in the UAE and his target is to lead the club to their first league title since 2009/10.
As a consequence, he needs to improve the squad and Al Wahda announced four new signings over the weekend.
However, Mosimane is said to have requested to sign the Sundowns duo according to UAE Sport News. It won’t be easy, though, as both players’ current deals run until June 2025.
It wouldn’t be the first time that Mosimane tries to lure Sirino away from Chloorkop, as the Uruguayan was chased by Al Ahly in 2021 – with the Egyptian giants understood to be interested in the winger even before Mosimane signed.
Shalulile, meanwhile, was recently linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, with the striker as well as Themba ‘Mshishi’ Zwane and Thapelo Morena being on the list of some Saudi club following their impressive CAF Champions League campaign.
It remains to be seen whether there is more to these initial reports, as Mosimane and his side are in Serbia for a pre-season camp.
After pre-season, Al Wahda’s serious work will see them face Kuwait SC on 28 July in the Arab Club Champions Cup, which is known as King Salman Cup.
They will then face Algerian side CR Belouizdad, who Mamelodi Sundowns met in the CAF Champions quarter-finals, on 31 July, while on 3 August Mosimane will meet Raja CA – now coached by former Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer.
