Pitso explains why ‘he knew’ Orlando Pirates would fail to score against Durban City

Durban City head coach Pitso Dladla has explained why Orlando Pirates failed to score against them on Saturday.

The Buccaneers were held to a goalless draw by City at the Orlando Amstel Arena. A win would have secured them the Betway Premiership title with a game to spare.

Speaking after the Pirates game, Dladla explained why he was confident in his side.

“Credit to the boys. We knew that it would be difficult. Our resolute defence did it. We defended as a team,” he said.

“As soon as we took control of that, we knew that they would not score even from set-pieces because we are very strong in that.”

Dladla praised the Buccaneers for their quality and style of play.

“Pirates, to be honest, have players who are technically gifted and also very mobile,” the Durban City coach added.

“They can put together a combination play. If combination play does not materialise, they can produce individual brilliance.

“But we worked on that. We knew that once we close certain things, we are good to defend.”

Orlando Pirates’ draw with Durban City has set them back in the title race. They now have to beat Orbit College in their final league match to be crowned champions.

Failure to win this weekend will see Mamelodi Sundowns win their ninth consecutive league title. Downs have already played all their league games and led Pirates by two points.

Can the Buccaneers win their fifth league title this weekend?
