Pitso Mosimane has only become the second second manager in CAF Champions League history to reach three successive finals.
The South African tactician saw his side beat ES Setif 6-2 on aggregate after picking up a 2-2 draw in Algeria on Saturday evening.
The reigning champions will now face Wydad Casablanca in this year’s final, hoping to become the first ever side to win three successive titles.
Mosimane equalled the impressive feat of legendary Al Ahly coach Manuel Jose, who had also reached three successive finals with Al Ahly between 2005 and 2007 – the first ever coach to do it.
A year later, Jose even reached his fourth successive CAFCL final and he won all but the 2007 edition. Here is where Mosimane could get one over the legendary Jose, as ‘Jingles’ could become the first ever coach win three successive finals.
However, this year’s final is overshadowed by controversy after the Confederation of African football handed the hosting rights to Morocco, which will be a major advantage for Wydad.
Overall, Mosimane could win his fourth CAFCL final after already lifting the trophy with Mamelodi Sundowns in 2016, which would equal Jose’s tally after the Portuguese coach won the 2001, 2005, 2006 and 2008 editions of the tournament, all with Al Ahly.
