Pitso Confident Ahead Of CAFCL Final

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has presented himself confident in his side ahead of Monday’s  CAF Champions League final against Wydad Athletic Club in Morocco.

The South African tactician is in line to write history as he could become the first ever coach to lift the CAFCL three in three successive seasons, but will have a mountain to climb after the Confederation of African Football has given Morocco the hosting rights for the one-legged final.

With the final taking place at the Stade Mohamed V stadium, Mosimane and his side will have to go up against a massively-backed Wydad side, who have won the competition twice in their history (1992 and 2007) so far.

However, Mosimane insisted he doesn’t have any issues with Morocco before insisting he team came to play and take the trophy back to Egypt.

“Morocco has been very good to me. It’s not the first time I’m here,” he said in his pre-match press conference.

“If you don’t know I’m one of the four coaches who have been invited to do the CAF FIFA Pro License in Rabat.

“I’m doing it with Walid Regragui, who is sitting next to me and interpreting for me, I’m doing it with the coach of Raja Casablanca, who was playing against me and I’ve been to Sale, I’ve seen everything.

“Morocco has been very good to me, I fell home. It’s just a different game to come to, I’m welcomed here, I’m happy to be here.

“The game is the game, I’d don’t have any issues with Morocco, we’re just here to play the game. We brought everybody from Cairo, we’re here to win the game.

“Unfortunately we didn’t win the game against Raja Casablanca here. It could’ve been a different story if scored the penalty. But we’ve come to play, we don’t come to think if we can win or not.

“No, we believe we can win, we will play. We are Al Ahly, we are here to play. You will see us.

“I’m not saying it’s going to be easy, it’s going to be difficult, like the way it was against Raja Casablanca but we are a serious football team, we are in the third CAF final, excuse me.

“You have to be careful when you play us. You’re not playing a small team, we are a strong team. Wydad is a very strong team, Wydad have a strong history, and of course we’re playing Wydad in their home.

“But here we are, Al Ahly play everywhere.”

Al Ahly have won the last two editions of the CAF Champions League, beating bitter rivals Zamalek in 2020 in Mosimane’s first final with the club, while they upstaged Kaizer Chiefs in last year’s final.
