Pirates Sweat Over Fitness Of 2 Stars

Orlando Pirates sweat over the fitness of goalkeeper Richard Ofori and outfield player Bandile Shandu ahead of their DStv Premiership clash with Golden Arrows on Tuesday.

The Buccaneers enter the tie in fifth place, while Arrows sit in eighth. However, it is Jose Riveiro who is coming a bit under presser after his side only won one of their last five DStv Premiership games that saw them drop from second into fifth.

They will be keen to move past Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs, but meet an Arrows side that has lost just one of their last eight leagues games.

Pirates will be boosted by the return of Thabiso Monyane after his two-match suspension, while Shandu and Ofori picked up injuries in the recent 1-1 draw with AmaZulu.

“Pirates will be able to call upon wing-back Thabiso Monyane, who is eligible to play on Tuesday after serving out his two-match suspension,” the club said via a statement.

“His return comes amid doubts over the fitness of Bandile Shandu, who limped off in the first half against AmaZulu.

“Another player to be assessed after having to be withdrawn early during Friday’s outing is goalkeeper Richard Ofori, who was replaced by Siyabonga Mpontshane in the second half.”

The Buccaneers will be keen to improve their recent record against Arrows, having not beaten them in any of their last six games, picking up five draws and one defeat, while failing to score a single goal.

Tuesday’s match kicks off at 19:30 at the Princess Magogo Stadium.
