Orlando Pirates are set to lead its defence of their not guilty stance in the Tim Sukazi fracas, while Royal AM and Chippa United are facing charges of fielding ineligible players.

Pirates were charged by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) after denying TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi entrance into Orlando Stadium in an incident that descended into unsavoury scenes before going viral on social media.

The club pleaded not guilty to the charge and the hearing was postponed due to a key witness, Pirates media officer, Thandi Merafe being on duty for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

PSL prosecutor, advocate Zola Majava has now provided an update on the saga which he states will reach a conclusion before the end of this month.

“The matter is now postponed to the 23rd and 24th of March for further hearing, where Orlando Pirates will lead its own testimony in defence,” Majavu confirmed.

“The DC expressed directive that the matter won’t be postponed further and both parties were directed that the matter is indeed finalised on those two subsequent dates.”

He went on to confirm dates have been set for Royal AM and Chippa United over fielding ineligible players during the 2021/22 campaign.

“Royal AM has been charged and will be appearing in front of the PSL DC on 7 March 2022 at 12h00, to answer to charges of fielding an ineligible player in the name of Mr Philani Khumalo – having received four cautions [prior].

“Chippa will also be facing similar charges after fielding a player Mr Riedwaan Serfontein, having received four cautions – that matter will be heard by the DC by 3 March, 18h00.”
