Pirates Provide Update On Mako

Orlando Pirates have provided an update on Paseka Mako who suffered a horrific head injury after colliding with teammate Richard Ofori against Baroka on Tuesday.

The game was halted shortly after the diminutive left-back ran into Ofori’s knee as he looked to clear a through ball. Mako was covered by both sets of players as the medical team prepared to put him in the ambulance on standby before taking him to a nearby medical centre.

Pirates have since informed iDiski Times that Mako was stabilised after a concussion but was taken for further medical tests before an official statement will be released.

“Prayers and thoughts are with him. It was an incident you don’t want to see in football. Our players decided they were not in the right state of mind to continue. Emotionally to see your teammate the way he was, they were not in the right frame of mind to say let’s fight for the 11 minutes. It was understandable, life comes first, football second,” Davids said to journalists including iDiski Times’ Lethabo Kganyago.

Davids confirmed Ofori had a wound on his knee from the impact but Mako was still breathing and conscious after the horrific collision.

“He was stable, that’s the good thing. He was unconscious at first but then he was breathing, he was conscious but not fully conscious. He was breathing, he was stable on his way to the hospital. We have no further update yet,” Davids concluded.
