Orlando Pirates have moved back above Kaizer Chiefs on the log after collecting a goalless draw with Chippa United on Wednesday.

The Buccaneers had the first chance of the game in the fourth minute when Terrence Dzvukamanja connected with a cross inside the five-yard box but Chippa somehow managed to keep the ball out.

Chippa had their first real attempt in the 22nd minute when Eva Nga’s shot flew over the goal.

Bandile Standu had a great chance after being played in by a long diagonal ball but Chippa goalkeeper Junior Kazapua was quick to come off his line to deny the Pirates full-back.

Pirates dominated large proceedings of the first half but were unable to find a breakthrough and both teams went goalless into the break.

In the 63rd minute Deon Hotto sent in a delightful cross in the box after a sneaky shibobo on Tebogo Makobela, but it was missed by Peprah who was at full stretch.

Pirates were calling for a penalty when Tshegofatso Mabasa’s shot was saved by a Chippa defender but the replay showed the referee made the right call.

Thembinkosi Lorch should’ve made it 1-0 in the 76th minute but Kazapua denied him when he appeared free in front of the keeper.

Eva Nga almost stole the points for Chippa but his header in the 83rd minute was pushed onto the crossbar by Richard Ofori.

Nyauza missed a brilliant chance to head Pirates into the lead in the 87th but his header hit the crossbar.

The point was enough for the Sea Robbers to move ahead of their Soweto rivals on the log. Bucs now have 40 points, as many as third-placed Cape Town City, but five behind Royal AM in second spot.
