Pirates on brink of making MTN8 history

Orlando Pirates could make MTN8 history on Saturday when they play Stellenbosch FC at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

A win would make them the first team to win three straight titles, but they’d still trail Kaizer Chiefs’ record 15 wins.

Keeper Sipho Chaine isn’t worried about past glory.

“The most important thing for myself is to leave the past in the past. It’s to understand and to see the game as a new experience,” he told the media.

Pirates have scored 12 MTN8 wins, but recent success adds pressure, the assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi admits.

“More blessings means more burdens, and when you work at Pirates, the expectations are always there. We’ve got so much on our shoulders while we sit in front,” he said.

Ncikazi also played down the favourites tag.

“It depends on how you term favourites. The only thing that will determine whether we are favourites or not will be the number of supporters.

“If you use that metric only, I would agree. But if you use other metrics, I would not agree that we are favourites. In essence, Stellenbosch are the favourites.”

Pirates are also monitoring Olisa Ndah and Monnapule Saleng’s fitness ahead of the match.
