Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori has been named in the provisional 55-man Ghana squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Ofori is one of five goalkeepers named in the squad, but is expected to make the final list, which will need to be submitted by 13 November and only include 23-26 names.

Ghana coach Otto Addo selected an initial 55-man list, which also includes the likes of Tariq Lamptey, Mohammed Salisu and Inaki Williams, who only recently switched allegiances to the Black Stars.

The other standout players in the squad are Arsenal’s Thomas Partey, in-form Ajax Amsterdam star Mohammed Kudus and the Ayew brothers.

Ghana were drawn in Group H alongside Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea. They will kick off their tournament against A Selecao on 24 November.

Should Ofori, who has represented Ghana 25 times, make Addo’s final squad, Pirates are in for a nice payday, with FIFA paying every club around $10,000 (R183,000) per day that the player will be in the Ghana camp.
