Pirates fans rejoice to see fan favourite back in the Bafana squad

Orlando Pirates fans expressed their joy after their star player, Relebohile Mofokeng, was named in the Bafana Bafana preliminary squad for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The 21-year-old missed Bafana’s last World Cup qualifiers due to injury and was not called for the friendly match against Zambia. Hugo Broos‘ decision to leave out Mofokeng has led some fans to predict that the winger may miss the AFCON tournament.

Despite being part of the preliminary squad, the Pirates winger still has to play his heart out to earn a ticket to Morocco. Currently, Tshepang Moremi, Sipho Mbule and Oswin Appollis look to have secured their ticket to the AFCON and they all play in Mofokeng’s positions.

Can Rele Mofokeng regain his form at Pirates?

With four matches still to play, the 21-year-old has a chance to raise his hand. Unfortunately, he is no longer a starter, but he has a team around him which can play him into form.

After Broos announced his preliminary squad, many Pirates fans were relieved to see Relebohile Mofokeng’s name.

@IzzyboyM wrote: “Mofokeng needs to really show up in the next 4 games or else he is also missing out….him and Mokwana are fighting for that plane seat.”

Mofokeng has not found his form this season at Pirates

@ChriExcelTrans wrote: “Rele Mofokeng is going to Afcon and to the World Cup, then next season he’s going overseas.”

In the 12 matches that Mofokeng has played this season for Pirates, “President Yama 2k” is yet to score and has provided just two assists.

Will Rele make the AFCON squad?
