Pirates fans hail Sebelebele after Derby masterclass

Orlando Pirates supporters were full of praise for Kamogelo Sebelebele following the Buccaneers’ emphatic 3-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby.

The 23-year-old utility wingback delivered a standout performance at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon and was deservedly named Man of the Match.

Sebelebele was outstanding from start to finish. Whether operating at right-back or pushing higher up the flank, his pace, energy and decision-making completely nullified Chiefs’ left side.

In particular, he kept Pule Mmodi quiet throughout the contest, giving the Amakhosi winger little room to influence proceedings.

Pirates were especially dangerous down the right channel, where Sebelebele combined effectively with Oswin Appollis to stretch and destabilise the Chiefs defence. His relentless work rate in both attack and defence underlined why he was widely regarded as the best player on the pitch.

After receiving his Man of the Match award, the Sebokeng-born star urged Buccaneers supporters to continue backing the team even during difficult periods.

Fans praise Sebelebele on X

Pirates fans quickly took to social media platform X to applaud Sebelebele’s display:

@makwande_m wrote: “Let’s give credit where it’s due, Kamogelo Sebelebele held it down in that right-back position.”

@PorshePatience posted: “My timeline is full of Sebelebele and I’m so happy for him. He was the best player on the pitch today and people can see that even without him scoring.”

@MmolokiB added: “He was superb today. Marking like his life depended on it. Unfortunate he won’t be available in the next game.”

Sebelebele’s performance not only helped secure bragging rights in South Africa’s biggest derby but also reinforced his growing importance in the Pirates setup.

The speedy winger will not be available for the Buccaneers’ next match against Polokwane City on Wednesday at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Can the Buccaneers win the league this season?
