Pirates’ 6-0 win becomes the club’s third biggest in history

Orlando Pirates’ performance on Sunday at the Mbombela Stadium became an instant classic, thanks to Relebohile Mofokeng’s hat-trick and goals each for Tshepang Moremi, Kamohelo Sebelebele while the sixth was a Mllungisi Mbunjana own goal.

The victory marked the club’s third biggest triumph after beating Marumo Gallants 8-1 and Golden Arrrows 7-1 in recent history.

ORLANDO PIRATES’ BIGGEST EVER WINS

  1. Orlando Pirates 8-1 Marumo Gallants

At number 1 is the 8-1 annihilation of Gallants. It happened as recently as the 2th of December in 2024 at the Orlando Amstel Arena in the Betway Premiership.

An own goal from Kenneth Nthatheni was Orlando Pirates’ only goal in the first half. It was followed by a Tshegofatso Mabasa: 47th, 53rd and 64th minutes, while Deano Van Rooyen also found a goal in between in the 59th minute.

A brace for Orlando Pirates midfielder Thalente Mbatha in the 70th and 82nd minute and Boitumelo Radiopane’s 90th minute striker completed the rout.

2. Orlando Pirates 7-1 Golden Arrows

Tshegofatso Mabasa opened the scoring in the 11th minute before Relebohile Mofokeng added a second just three minutes later to give Pirates early momentum, and Kabelo Dlamini extended the lead in the 32nd minute to cap off a strong first-half showing.

The second half continued in a similar pattern as Mabasa grabbed his second goal in the 51st minute, before Sandile Mthethwa added another in the 75th minute. Mabasa then completed his hat-trick in the 78th minute to underline his impact on the match, while Karim Kimvuidi rounded off the scoring with a late goal in the 90th minute to seal an emphatic result for Bucs.

3. THREE MATCHES JOINT THIRD

Orlando Pirates’ third biggest record win features three 6-0 wins. The old being against Ajax Cape Town in the 2004/5 season in Soweto.

It was followed by the David vs Goliah battle against fourth division side Crytal Lake in the Nedbank Cup last 16 at the Mbombela Stadium in February 2024.

Match number three in the 6-0 victories took place on Sunday against TS Galaxy, with Relebohile Mofokeng standing out with a hat-trick.
