Pics| Police Detective, Xolani Mthembeni Kunene, Arrested For Brutally Assaulting Wife

Xolani Mthembeni Kunene, an abusive Brakpan police detective, was detained on Thursday evening by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate and the SAPS after images of his reportedly bruised wife surfaced on social media.

According to Ipid, this was not the woman’s first assault; she had previously been assaulted by her spouse, and the situation was investigated by the police watchdog.

On August 2, last year, the Protea Magistrate Court granted the detective bail.

Lizzy Suping, a spokesperson for Ipid, stated: “His bail conditions were that he should not be in contact with the wife.”

Ipid assisted the wife in filing a second lawsuit against Kunene, and this information will be used in a court attempt to have his bail withdrawn.

“He will appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Monday, March 13 for this latest assault case,” said Suping.
