Petro de Luanda have announced that head coach Alexandre Santos has signed a new contract after guiding the club to the CAF Champions League semi-final.
The former FC Porto and Al Ahly assistant coach were set to see his contract expire in July but they’ve now agreed on terms to extend it by a further season along with his entire technical team.
The 45-year-old Portuguese coach arrived in August 2021 and looks on course to win the Angola Girabola title as they currently sit at the summit with seven games remaining.
It’s proved to be their best season in history with only one loss in the league all season, while they dumped Sundowns out of the Champions League to qualify for the semi-finals for the first time.
Currently two points ahead of reigning champions Sagrada Esperanca, Petro has two games in hand over their rivals, who they also left behind in Group D, alongside Zamalek, as they qualified as runners-up for the knockout stages behind Wydad Atheltic Club.
