Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen admits he’s pleased at his return to the starting line-up and has the full support of his competition.
Petersen (28), Bruce Bvuma (27) and Itumeleng Khune (35) have all been afforded chances this season but the Cape Town-born talent has now kept three cleen sheets in three games since earning his return under head coach Arthur Zwane.
“It’s been a while, I’ve been waiting [for my chance], and I mean the important part was to make sure I’m ready when given the opportunity and I think we’ve been training well, especially us goalkeepers, we’ve been working hard,” Petersen said.
“I’m sure if you give anyone else a chance now, they will pull out the same performance, it’s just the way we prepare ourselves and it’s been good, I’m feeling good I’m feeling confident.
“Having three clean sheets is always a bonus for us as goalkeepers, we like our sheets clean – so it’s been good and I’m looking forward to keeping going.”
With nine games offered in all competitions this season, Petersen says there’s no bad blood in the camp and the environment has been conducive for improvement from all three keepers, something that’s been echoed from Bvuma and Khune all season.
“We had healthy competition, it’s been like that ever since I’ve been here, and I think that’s helped us a lot because we help each other grow, and when you see one is lacking, you try and lift him up, help him improve,” Petersen added.
“At the end of the day, whoever coach picks, it’s important for us to support one another because your chance might come and you would want that [same] support. So it’s been great, and we’re brothers on the field.”
Petersen has kept 10 clean sheets in 20 games for Amakhosi since his move from the now-defunct Bidvest Wits.
