Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has opened up on the relationship between the four Amakhosi shot stoppers.
Petersen, 27, has received the backing from coach Stuart Baxter in the second half of the campaign and he remained between the sticks when Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard took over.
His performances have been largely impressive even though he didn’t look too good when Terrence Mashego scored against him from a tight angle on Saturday.
Petersen, though, insisted that the bond between the goalkeepers as well as the support of goalkeeper coach Lee Baxter is somewhat like a “safe haven” in times of criticism.
“We have a very, very strong goalkeeping department. I mean, we have four number one goalkeepers, and I mean, at any time anyone can step in and they can do the job,” he told iDiski Times in an exclusive interview.
”And I think you’ve seen that I think in last season, like over the last two seasons, you know, even with the CAF, when we had Bruce playing, we had Daniel playing and we had Itu playing and they did very well, everyone who came in they did their job.
“That’s the standard that was set there for us as goalkeepers, even with Coach Lee Baxter. He’s been amazing, he’s been drilling us, the standard has been high, he’s been demanding of us.
“I always say that that’s our safe haven, as goalkeepers because when all things go wrong, you go back to that and that’s where you are, you are loved and you are appreciated, and it’s people that understand you, that’s been through what you’re going through at that moment.
“So it’s nice to share and to have the experience of Itu and of Daniel, it’s amazing for myself and for Bruce as younger goalkeepers, but I think in general just I think the relationship we have, as in the bond we have, is very strong.”
Chiefs return to action on Tuesday when they will host Marumo Gallants at the FNB Stadium at 19:30.
